Blake was inspired to start TOMS during a trip to Argentina, where he encountered the traditional "alpargata" shoe. For every pair of TOMS purchased, a pair is donated to a child in need.

In the first year of business, TOMS sold 10,000 pairs of shoes, leading to Blake returning to Argentina for the first annual Shoe Drop to donate shoes to children who had inspired him. TOMS Shoes are now available in various colors and fabric combinations for men, women, and children, under the name Tiny TOMS.
